In the first of two votes, city council voted 5-4 to approve the massive annexation on the southeast side of the city.
Residents have voiced concern about how this will impact utilities, including water, as well as first responder services when the location is so far removed from the current city boundaries.
The Amara land annexation will allow developers to build 9,000 homes on the 3,000 acre plot of land, located close to Fountain, with Colorado Springs services.
